Micrometer and Calipers
Over the course of two years at MTA there are many LAPS that must be completed for Technology class. One of the LAPS I completed was the QA LAP. Within this LAP I was taught how to use micrometers and calipers. I had to take multiple 3-4in steel rods and measure them to see how much a difference there is between each rod. Every rod was different about .005 which is not noticeable to the human eye.
I recently over the summer also completed an Internship at Forkardt Workholding. Some of my responsibilities involved sand blasting parts and laser etching different things into the part. This required blueprint reading which was another skill I learned. I was also required to de-burr metal jaws used in the chucks they created. I did some basic QA with my supervisor Darren Zywicki. Every so many parts that he machined he had to check to make sure for accuracy of his machine. I was able to use caliper with him and said that I was correct on all of the measurements that I made. There was not many items that you could use a micrometer on. So I did not really get to micrometers at my internship. I did do more QA though at this internship. I also created preventative maintenance files for all of their machines which became ISO files.
