Applications of Chemistry
Throughout the year I have completed assignments in chemistry. Some of these assignments take the concepts and ideas we have learned and show us how they apply to the real world. In general terms but we looked at how things in chemistry are used in industry or manufacturing. Some of these assignments required formulas and mathematics and others required research and understanding of theories or concepts. Below you will see some of the concepts we have learned being applied in industry.
Skills and Objectives
- Interpret prefixes in the names of molecular compounds
- Apply the rules for naming binary molecular compounds
- Write formulas for binary molecular compounds
- Identify basic parts of a chemical equation
- Write a word equation
- Understand the Rules for balancing equations
- Balance a skeleton equation
- Write word equations as balanced chemical equations
Justification
These papers were assigned with very little background information at the time. I had to research into these topics and understand them to the point that I could write summaries about them. These summaries all were assigned through different times of the year. I understand a lot more about how much chemical reactions are used in the real world. Did you know that we can artificially ripen fruit. That is pretty neat. The entire year we learned how chemistry is applied in the real world. Which is very helpful because most classes you don't get to see where the applications you are learning are applied. For these reasons I have decided to add these to my portfolio.
