Mentor Program
In the beginning of the year I was assigned a mentor based upon common interests. My mentor is David Buck he lives in Buckley Michigan. He is an Agricultural Engineer for the company National Resources Conservation Society (NRCS). He does a lot of cool stuff with the environment like creating chemical sheds for all of the cherry plantations in Michigan. He also has restored wetlands and preserved wetlands all around parts of Michigan. I first met my mentor at a breakfast near the beginning of the year where we laid out our mentor/mentee goals. This is where we discussed what we both hoped to obtain from this business relationship. Every month I would meet with my mentor to talk about a sheet that we were assigned to discuss. We didn't just talk about the sheet we talked about school, family, sports and just life in general. Every month the sheet was a different topic. I would ask him questions and he would answer them. When I met with Mr. Buck we met at MTA a couple of times we also went to get lunch at Subway and McDonalds. He did get to show me some of the projects he has done too. I thought it was very interesting how he spent most of his time out in the field helping preserve wildlife and keeping the environment clean.

Employability Skills:

Justification
I learned a great deal from Mr. Buck over this past year. He showed me what he does as an agricultural engineer. This was one of the fields of work I was interested in and I am glad I was able to experience this first hand. When I talk and discuss things with Mr. Buck it doesn't feel like I am talking to a mentor but more of a dad. I can understand this because he has two children of his own. It does feel weird though, but that is just how it is and it's never a bad thing to have too many good role models.
